AS EVERYBODY IS GETTING READY FOR 2005 AND THE CELEBRATIONS
OF LORD NELSON'S GLORIOUS VICTORY AT TRAFALGAR
I THOUGHT SOMETHING DIFFERENT SHOULD BE ADDED
TO THE IMMORTAL MEMORY
THE INTERNET CANNOT COMPETE WITH THE MOVIE MAKERS NOR WITH THE MANY AND FAMOUS NAVAL HISTORIANS AND THEIR SPLENDID BOOKS
SO I'LL LET THEM GET ON WITH TELLING YOU ABOUT NELSON AND HIS FINE OFFICERS
AND I'LL TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT NELSON'S
FINE AND LOYAL WARRANT OFFICERS
OVER THE SAME TWO HUNDRED YEAR PERIOD
COVERING SOME OF THE SOCIAL HISTORY OF THOSE WHO FOLLOWED ON TRAFALGAR, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO THE AGE OF STEAM, THEN TO THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW TECHNOLOGY.
However, I decided that I would have my pilgrimage this year in 2004, before the rush in 2005 started, and if you look here you will see the outcome of my visit . Because I was driving, I couldn't consume a "nelson's blood" offered by the landlord of the Lord Nelson's Inn [a rum based short] but I am told by the locals that it is a powerful drink. After many years of partaking of my grog - aged 21 to cessation in 1970 - some eleven years, I have my doubts about a civilian concoction.
When you are ready duck under the barrier and knock on the door
